Cary needs to be concerned with the growth in traffic. As we add more people, we add more cars and trips. Traffic gets worse. We can make some aspects of the traffic better by adding more lanes, traffic lights, etc. but each time we do that we create other problems.
Adding more lanes makes it more difficult to make a left turn onto the road, and more difficult to walk across the road.
Adding traffic lights may be necessary at intersections, but will make the trip longer for through traffic.

If we would get mass transit, particularly rail, we would not have a traffic problem. We would get many cars off the road. A train can carry more people than individual cars taking the same space.

I like transit, both rail and bus. However, I don't know how much good it will do about congestion.
Buses and rail will do a good job getting commuters from Cary to downtown Raleigh. However, most jobs, and the largest growth in jobs, are not in downtown Raleigh. They are very spread out in Cary and in the other suburbs.
Add to that the fact that many households have two workers (husband and wife). Couples will tend to live in an area between their jobs. Bus service would have to get from one neighborhood to another; one suburb to another. And without going through downtown Raleigh. (who would sit on a bus for an hour to get from Cary to Apex.

If you compare Cary to other areas, such at Tysons Corners, Va. (near DC) the traffic is not bad at all.

I have been to Tysons Corners a number of times. We don't want Cary traffic to be anything like the traffic there or elsewhere in the Northern Virginia area.
People move to Cary to get away from congested areas such as Northern Virginia, including Tysons Corners.
Maybe we should have a new town slogan - ""Cary, not quite as bad as Tysons".
