According to what Leigh Anne King said at the summit, and what others have said, Cary has less that 10,000 acres left for possible development.
Should a large part of this acreage be left in its natural state or as farm land? Or should it all be turned into subdivisions?
If we don't develop land as subdivisions covered with houses, how is it paid for?

Yes, as much of that land as possible should remain in its natural state as forest or as farm land. The town should buy development rights for farmland, something that is done in other areas. Land can be zoned for very low density development.
The traffic problems would not be made worse by wooded land or farm land. The cost of providing services would be far less than if the land is developed.
We need to preserve what little undeveloped land we have left.
